Sweet Sara loves Shelby!

Last night was Claire first time at the Daddy Daughter Date Night. She has been talking about it for a while. So, she was very excited. She got up from her nap ready to get her dress on. I even managed to curl her hair a little bit but she didn't have time for any make up. Bucky's boss from work invited us over to take pictures. The little girls in the pictures are all 8 to 9 years and have going since they were 3! They were so sweet to include Claire. Shelby loved playing with them too. What a special night for a special little girl and her daddy!

My last post was for Shelby's 10 month update. Now, just 2 short weeks later, she is walking! She started taking some steps about 10 days ago and has slowly improved. Yesterday, she was really being brave. I can't believe how quickly she has caught on to walking! She gets very excited and you can tell she is proud of herself. It does look a little funny because she is a very short little person walking around. Claire gets pretty excited too (you can hear us both in the background). She can take about 10 unassisted steps and keep her balance very well. Occasionally, she does fall. But, she has caught herself with her hands every time. I guess she is trying to keep up with her big sister!

We took advantage of a cold, clear day and went to feed the ducks. Claire was very sure to make sure every duck got a piece of hot dog bun. Shelby and Ariel rode around contently in their strollers. Sure beats hanging around the house whining when you don't take a nap!

10 Months Old

Our baby doll is 10 months old today! Her happy-go-lucky personality is really coming out. She has become much more independent in the last month. Shelby loves to crawl around and explore anything she can reach. She also prefers to feed herself. She is a real mess.

Another HUGE milestone is that she is sleeping through the night!! I didn't think it would ever happen. But, she started right after Christmas. And it didn't really take that much crying. She still gets up at the crack of dawn, but I'll take it!

I am also starting to wean her from nursing. I am doing it gradually because I am taking Claire to Disney World the first weekend of April. So, it has to be done by then because I am not carrying a breast pump into the Magic Kingdom!

Shelby is wearing 6/9month clothes and size 3 diapers.

Shelby can say MaMa and DaDa and knows who we are.

She likes to be read to and turn the pages.

She likes playing with Claire's doll house and has started playing with baby dolls and our pink kitchen.

There really isn't much she doesn't like but, her favorite person of all is still Claire!

Good Morning

Good morning! We'll still here. Things have died down around since Christmas is over. We've just been hanging out and playing with new toys. This is a picture of the girls this morning. They are so sweet to each other in the morning. Shelby (who gets up at the crack of dawn) is always glad to see her sister when we wake her up at 7am. We snuggle, watch Mickey Mouse, and play in the den. Have a great Thursday!

Another month flew by! These pictures were taken on 12-21 but we just went to the doctor today. So, I waited so I could post her stats. Shelby's personality is really coming out. She is a mess to say the least! She really likes playing with her sister and anything that is not intended for a baby. She climbs, crawls, and cruises around every where! She has gotten really fast. She usually smiles all day unless she is sleepy. She still likes to go places. Shelby is still nursing (with some formula) and has a great appetite. She has recently tried macaroni, lima beans, and a cinnamon roll. She liked it all! She did finally start getting one tooth on the bottom. Man, it is sharp too! She can really bite down on your finger now. She takes 2 naps a day and is not sleeping through the night. I am about to start weaning her some, so hopefully sleep will go hand-in-hand with that. She babbles all day and is constantly saying 'da-da'. She knows who he is too because you ask her where Dada is and she climbs on Bucky and smiles. She also squeals a lot, mainly out of excitment. And says 'hey' or some short of greeting.

Shelby is such a sweet little girl. Just today, Claire was crying about hurting her finger (being a little dramatic too). Shelby was sitting in my lap and kept hugging Claire. She was finally about to cheer up her big sister by being so sweet. Her nickname 'Sweet Shelby' definately suits her!

Christmas Day at our house started around 6:30. That is pretty good considering Shelby! I am not sure who was more excited, Bucky and me or the girls. Actually, the most excited person was probably Mrs. Street! We opened stockings and presents first. Claire had picked out Bucky a camo knife at Academy. He loves it! And she picked me some purple slippers. It is funny to see what she thinks we would like. We got dressed and were in Birmingham by 10:30. We opened presents from Grandma, Granddaddy, and Aunt Mindy. Then we all took naps. Bucky's Aunt Brendan and Uncle Russell came over as well as the Elkins. Claire had fun harassing Colton. We ate a delicious meal of steak, potatoes, salad, rice, etc. My mom and dad and the Beckhams came over for dessert. It was a long, but very good day. Claire and Shelby were very well behaved and really enjoyed spending time with their family. Claire always loves playing with Grandma and Shelby was fascinated by their little dog. We came back Monday and have been trying to get our house back in order.

We had a wonderful Christmas Eve as a family of four in Auburn. We had recently watched the video of last year's Christmas Eve. It is really funny to see how much has changed in a year! Claire was just a little girl (with a BIG personality) and I was pregnant. Another little girl sure does change your life for the better. We had a big breakfast Saturday morning, baked cookies, took naps, and got ready for church. We came home and read the Night Before Christmas and put out cookies for Santa and oats for Rudolph. Shelby went onto bed and we ate dinner. What a magical night!

8 years ago today at Riverchase United Methodist Church, Bucky and I were married. We sure do look a lot younger, huh? But, I still feel Bucky looks at me the same way. For some reason, this incredible man loves me with his whole heart. I often wonder why or how I am so blessed to have him as my husband. We have grown a lot together in our marriage. We have shared a lot of laughter and love. Every single day of our marriage, Bucky has hugged me and told me how much he loves me. Thank you for loving me unconditionally. We were definitely made for each other. I love you!

Sunday, Claire had her first dance recital. She was in the youngest class of ballerinas. It was really cute, to say the least. She was very excited about wearing make up and a tutu. I thought she did great getting up on the big stage and not being afraid. She was pretty tired by the end since it was during her nap time. But, she enjoyed all the attention and all her pretty flowers! Doesn't she look so old with her hair back and make up on?

Saturday, we took the girls to see Santa. Bucky had seen that he was coming to the feed store in Auburn. So, we went right after Shelby's nap. It was pretty crowded but the line moved fast. Shelby wasn't too sure about him. But the ladies distracted her and we were able to get some good pictures. And they even gave us a free one! Beats the mall where packages start at $30, right? Claire sat in his lap and told him she wanted "a Belle costume, a pink Ariel costume, and a Rapunzel costume." She didn't forget to tell what a Shelby wanted either. A Rudolph hair bow. Pretty specific. After that, we went to a local farmer's market and got our beautiful Christmas tree. I didn't take any pictures there. After lunch and naps, we decorated our tree and watched Christmas movies. What a great day!

Note: Sorry for the clump of posts. Since Shelby is crawling now, I can't get ANYTHING done while she is awake :)

Last Friday night, I took Claire to an event hosted by East Alabama Ballet. It was a really cute night called Clara's Tea Party. We got all dressed up and picked up our best friends, Carla and Natalie. We went to Saguhattchee Country Club, just me and Claire! It was very fun for me because I rarely get to do things one on one with her. So, I soaked up every moment! I think Claire did too. We made hairbands, bracelets, and candy bags. And ate chicken fingers and desserts. And best of all, read the Nutcracker and talked to some of the real ballerinas. It was very fun and very girly!

Thanksgiving 2011

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at our house. Due to the Auburn/Alabama game, we have been able to host just about every other year. I actually worked on Thanksgiving from 8-2 which is the easiest money I've ever made. My Mom and Dad came Thursday, sister came Friday, and brother came Saturday. It was fun to have all of the kids together. Shelby enjoyed the entertainment and extra attention. Claire enjoyed playing with Kate and Caroline. Bucky enjoyed making a campfire and have a low country boil. And I enjoyed good food and time with my family. We have so much to be Thankful for including our wonderful family and friends!

The week of homecoming, Aubie and the cheerleaders came to Claire's school. Shelby and I were able to attend as well. It was a really fun pep rally. Shelby and I actually got stuck up there during the tornadoes that came through. Thankfully, we were all safe. We also went to the homecoming parade. It was pretty cold. But, Claire loved seeing the floats and Shelby loved her shakers!

8 Months Old

These pictures are as good as it gets. And it took two tries! Shelby was trying to dive out of the chair! Anyways, she still almost crawling. And we moved her mattress all the way down so she is pulling up on it too. So I would say the one major change this month was mobility! Still no teeth and still about the same on sleeping. Shelby is still nursing. I am thankful that I have been able to continue and see how it has helped her. She has never been sick (thank God) and is growing and developing right on schedule. She has also become more vocal. She screams/squeals as a way to get Claire's attention. We have developed a nice little morning routine that I really enjoy with both girls. We are really looking forward to Thanksgiving this week and seeing our families. We sure do have a lot to be thankful for.

It is funny how she is hitting milestones at almost the exact same time Claire did (not that I compare them)! I try not to wish her stages by because she is growing up so fast! We have been doing a lot to get ready for Halloween around here. Sometimes, I feel like everyday is Halloween. That is because Claire is always dressed up and always asking for candy. I actually have more fun in the activities leading up to Halloween than I have on Halloween day. I love pumpkin patches and fall festivals. Always lots of fun. We had 2 pretty pink girls this year!

Shelby is 7 months old now! Hard to believe. This past month has FLOWN by. We have been out of town a lot and staying busy with our normal routine. Shelby hasn't hit any major milestones this month. We are still waiting on some bottom teeth to pop through and for some improvement on sleep habits :) She is still very sweet and loves to be entertained by her big sister. Honestly, I don't know how anyone else keeps her stimulated without Claire here. She is a great eater and likes mum-mums & puffs. As soon as she gets some teeth, I will let her have some more table food. We have all had a great month and are looking forward to Halloween!

We went to South Carolina this past weekend to visit the Harkins. We haven't been there in over a year. It was a really long car ride and Shelby fussed a good bit of the way (5 hrs!). But, once we got there, we had a blast. We got to go to a pumpkin patch on Saturday. It was great! It was pretty small but had well thought out activities. I got some great pictures (which is why I posted so many) because the lighting was perfect. Claire was so excited to get 'the Littlest Pumpkin'. She has a book about that and was determined to find it. Shelby enjoyed being carried around outside and eating the hay. We love spending time with the whole Harkins family so much.

6 months old!

These pictures were made on Shelby's 6 month birthday last week. Her doctor's appointment wasn't until yesterday so I decided to wait to do her post. A lot happens when you turn 6 months old! It seems as though she has hit some major milestones lately which have changed up our routine. Here are her stats:

~17lbs 3oz (75th percentile)

~25.5 inches (50th percentile)

~She is still breastfed and seems to be doing great. Though, my frozen stash is dwindling so we will have to start using some formula on the days that I work.

~She loves eating solid foods. I feed her a fruit and rice cereal in the morning (banana, peaches, apples) and vegetables and oatmeal at dinner (green beans, sweet potatoes, carrots, squash). The only thing she hasn't liked are peas, so we will try them again in a few weeks.

~She is sitting up

~She has transitioned to two naps a day; morning and afternoon.

~She usually wakes up around 6am ready to go. I think she gets that from her Daddy.

~She goes to bed at 7:00 or 7:30 and is usually up around 12 midnight to eat again

~She is incredibly flexible and very good at going with the flow

~She will grab something off of the table or out of your hand before you can even blink!

~She still puts everything in her mouth (but no sign of any teeth)

~Sometimes, I think she is saying 'hi' to me

~She gives the biggest smiles to Claire

~She likes to be outside and enjoys watching the dogs run around

~Her hair is still a topic of conversation to most strangers

~She will grab your face or hair and almost give you a hug

~She likes to sit or stand most of the time

~When you carry her, her arms are always straight down and almost reaching back

~She kicks one leg like she is starting a motorcycle (according to my Dad)

~She went to her first Auburn game last weekend

~She can now sit in a high chair at resturants (with the cover, of course)

~She does not like the church nursery

~She is a precious child

~She has a very sweet nature and loves being with her family

Auburn vs. Florida Atlantic

Claire has been asking to go to an Auburn football game. We came across some tickets and decided this would be a great weekend. Bucky even wanted to go which is unheard of! He will do anything for Claire (including camping out Friday night in our backyard). I debated on whether or not to take Shelby too. The game was at 6:00 which is a fussy time some days, but you gotta live, right? So, we went with Mr. and Mrs. Street. It was nice because there was no traffic and we pulled right into the Streets reserved parking space. Claire and Shelby really enjoyed walking around on campus before hand. Shelby loves the action and of course to be held :0) And Claire loved seeing the Tiger Paws and band. Shelby did great in the stadium for about 45 minutes. Then she started to get a little hungry and a little sleepy. It was pretty loud in there too, so Bucky and I left a few plays into the game. Claire stayed with Grandma, Granddaddy, and Mindy and had a blast! She would have stayed the whole game, I am sure! But, she came home after the 3rd quarter. I think we may have a little Auburn fan on our hands!

We went to Birmingham this weekend to celebrate my Dad's 64th birthday and my niece, Caroline's, 4th birthday. The share the same birthday which is always fun to celebrate. 5 months old

Happy 5 months to Shelby. Where has the time gone? We spent the day at home together while Bucky and Claire went to the lake. Shelby is really learning to play with toys. She LOVES to put things in her mouth. She also loves to eat rice cereal. She eats it twice a day and cleans her bowl every time! Sometimes I wonder if she would just keep eating until she couldn't. She gets a good appetite from her Mom (don't laugh Bucky). Shelby has also started sleeping a little better at night. Still pretty inconsistent but she will eventually get it. This month she has started playing in her exersaucer and has swung a couple of times on the swing set. She enjoys doing anything with her sister. We love our chunky monkey and watching her grow!

This past Sunday we baptized our sweet angel, Shelby. We were so lucky to have family and friends come in to share in the celebration. My prayer for Shelby (and Claire) is to know God as her Lord and Savior. I hope that Bucky and I will help guide our girls to live a life with God at the center. As we went up in front of the church as a family, I couldn't help but tear up thinking about the blessing He has bestowed upon us. Shelby has brought so much love and happiness into our home. She has the sweetest smile and a special light in her eyes. She is truly a gift from God and I am glad we were able to baptize her in front of so many people who love her. Thank you to everyone who made it a special day.

Ballet

Claire started ballet last Thursday. Unfortunately, my card wasn't in my camera. So, I just got video last week. But, I remembered my camera this week. She is really excited about taking lessons and being a 'real' ballerina. She has class with friends Natalie, Lily, and Emeri. They don't let parents watch so we just chat for the 45 minute lesson. That is nice. And Shelby politely hung out in her car seat until she fell asleep. The only thing I see becoming a problem is the time of day, 1:00. Claire usually naps at home from 1-4pm and at school from 11-2. So, she is pretty tired once it is over. But, she did sleep from 2:30 to 4:30 today so I guess we will just be taking a later nap on Thursdays. I can't wait to see what she learns over the year. They are the cutest things in their leotards and skirts!

Tuesday night, we decided to let Shelby try some rice cereal. She doesn't really need it to gain weight or anything, but I thought it may help her sleep a little longer at night. Ha ha! No such luck. She wasn't too sure about it at first. I think Claire liked feeding her more than she liked eating it! We will try again in a few weeks.

Shelby at 4 months

Shelby went for her 4 month check-up this morning. Everything went well except she got a little tired by the end. She had just dozed off when they came in with the shots. Then she got really upset again! Poor baby. She calmed down pretty quickly after nursing and even went back to sleep while we ran in Kroger for a minute. Dr. Greer said everything looked great. We talked some about eating and sleeping, which are two very important points in infants! He listened to her heart and lungs and checked her ears. Here are her stats:

~14lb 11oz (75 percentile-- I looked back and Claire was 15lb even at her 4 mo appointment)

~24.5 inches long

~41 cm head (I think)

~still wearing size 2 diapers

~wears size 3-6mo and 6mo clothing

~her hair is getting so long and goes over her ears now

~she has been more vocal lately

~anything that comes near her hands or face, she grabs and puts in her mouth

~can roll from stomach to back but does this inconsistently

~she likes to sit in the bumbo on the bar so she doesn't miss anything

~her favorite person, by far, is Claire

~her nicknames include boo-boo (me), angel (Bucky), and baby doll (Claire)

~it is very easy to make her smile, although most pictures tell a different story

~she wakes up at 6am (or earlier) talking and ready to go for the day

~she really only fusses if she is tired or hungry

~she gets up twice a night to eat (around 11pm to 1am and 3 to 4am)

~she is still exclusively breastfed

~she usually takes 2 long naps and 2 short naps

~she loves her bath

~she likes to play on her play mat and pretty much anywhere Claire is

~she likes her swing

~she likes to be held facing outwards so she can see

~she is very flexible with her schedule and likes to get out and do things

~she is a very sweet baby who loves her family

We go to the doctor in a week for weight check and shots, so I will post again with 4 month stats and her latest milestones. We love our Shelby and can't remember life without her!

3 Months Old

Hard to believe Shelby is 3 months old today. Her sweet personality is really coming out. She loves to be on the go and watching her big sister. Here are some milestones in the past 3 months:

~wears size 2 diapers

~wears mostly 3 month clothes and some 3-6 month

~she has discovered her fist and enjoys sucking on it

~still not the best sleeper at night :) usually getting up between 10pm-12am and again 2am-3am

~has been taking the bottle much better

~she really loves Mommy

~she smiles very easily if you talk to her in a sweet voice

~she likes to be carried on your hip, facing outwards so she can see

~she likes her swing with the mobile on

~she doesn't like tummy time

~she has rolled over once from front to back

~she still loves her bath

~I would think she almost weighs 13lbs

~she is very snugly

~she has started to coo in a sweet little voice

~people still comment on her hair but we have now added comments on her cheeks and legs

We love our sweet baby, but she is growing too fast!

Happy Father's Day!

I have known Bucky since he was 18 years old. We have both grown a lot. Over the years, he has become an amazing husband and father. He loves us very much and makes it a point to tell all 3 of us everyday. I am very thankful our daughters have a strong man to look to as their father.

Some things I admire about Bucky as father/husband:

~he is a hard worker

~he loves to laugh and make people laugh

~he is honest and faithful

~he is level-headed

~he is patient and kind

~his love for me, Claire, and Shelby is unwavering

~he is predictable (wearing Wranglers and a plaid shirt every day since I have known him!)

~he is easy to please

~he always knows what I am thinking

~he is not afraid to wear a pink hair bow and have a tea party

~he makes beautiful daughters

~he steps up as a parent when I am ready to back down

Shelby's 2 month check-up

Shelby had her 2 month check up last week. She was actually 9 and 1/2 weeks old on the day of her appointment. She is growing quickly (just like Claire) and hitting all her developmental milestones. Dr. Greer loves her almost as much as he loves seeing Claire! We did not get a very good 2 month picture. Shelby wasn't too sure of sitting in the chair by herself. So, I tried to get one after bath when she is happy. It turned out a little better, but she was sleepy and needed her passie.

I am really pleased with how both of the girls rooms' turned out. Claire has been upstairs since January. It took me a while to get everything hung on her walls. Since we didn't know Shelby's gender, we waited to decorate her room. We were able to use bedding and curtains we had from Claire's nursery. That was a big help. Plus, we got a new rocker for her room so we could still use the green one in the Claire's room. I have found their rooms to be very functional and spacious. Hopefully both rooms will grow with them for a few years (at least)! It is a great feeling to go upstairs and see both girls sleeping peacefully in their beds. I hope they find their rooms comforting and homey.

Claire and Shelby had their check-ups this morning. Thankfully, Bucky was able to go with us. Everyone is healthy and growing well. Shelby gained almost a full pound since last week! I thought she looked like she was getting some rolls on her :) She also had her Hep B shot which only made her cry for about 20 seconds. We were thankful for good reports and hope not to go back to the pediatrician until Shelby is 8 weeks for more shots.

Swing Set

Bucky and I have been thinking about getting a swing set for a while now. There are a lot of choices out there. And they are a big investment. But, we decided to go ahead and get one for Claire's birthday this year. We ordered this one from Wal-Mart. Bucky had a lot of help putting it together including my dad, his dad, and Trey Beckham. With a lot of patience and organization, it was complete in about a day and a half. I was impressed and Claire loves it! Hopefully the girls will enjoy it for the next few years!

Our last Easter Egg Hunt was with our good friends the Schoonovers and the Harkins. We went to Town Creek Park on Saturday for a fun time finding eggs and eating lunch. The girls had fun together since they haven't seen each other much lately. Connor and Shelby slept through the whole thing, except Shelby wanted out of her seat so we held her most of the time. We had a nice morning before it got too hot!

We had two Easter Egg Hunts scheduled for today. I was brave enough to try to take on both! We had a lot of fun and both girls were very well behaved. Claire liked hunting the eggs but mostly seeing the prizes inside. She ate a little too much candy since I wasn't able to monitor her as closely as usual. But, she didn't seem to mind! Shelby slept some but did wake up and enjoy some time outside. It is amazing what you can do with only 1 hand. We have another one to go to tomorrow so I will try to post pictures of it as well.

By the way, I got Shelby dressed in her sweet smocked bunny dress that Michelle let us borrow. Claire wanted to match so she had to wear a pink dress as well. She is so funny! She likes for everyone to wear pink dresses and pink hairbows. Did you notice I am in black? Wonder where little girls learn this stuff!

1 Month Old

It is hard to believe that Shelby is 1 month old today. It really seems like she's always been here. She has completed our family beautifully. Here are some milestones from the past month:

~ she weighed 8lbs 9oz today

~she has really good head control

~she took a bottle for the first time like a champ

~she is really aware of her surroundings and who is holding her

~she is in size 1 diapers

~she has almost outgrown all of her newborn clothes

~people stop me all the time to comment on her hair

~she doesn't like the carseat unless she is already asleep when you put her in it

~she has played on the playmat a few times and seems to like it

~she likes to be held

~she gets fussy when she is sleepy, hungry, or has a tummy ache (duh)

~our first attempt sleeping in the crib didn't go well so she is still in bed with me (her rocking chair should be in next week so we will try again)

~she has seen Tangled every day of her life thanks to her big sister

~she is sweet little girl who loves Mama

I have mastered bathing both girls together all by myself. Seems like an easy task right? It definitely cuts down on the time and they seem to love it. Shelby hated baths before her umbilical cord fell off. Now, she gets so relaxed and sometimes dozes off. It has a lot to do with her fish towel that keeps her warm. It was a gift but you can find them at Target and are definitely worth trying! Nothing like two sweet, clean girls to put to bed!

It is hard to believe it has been a month since we had our sweet baby girl. Things have been busy, but great around here. Claire has been the best big sister we could have asked for. She is so sweet to Shelby and says things like "I love her so much" and "she is just precious" on a daily basis. It has really helped our transition that Claire is not jealous. It just solidifies that we were blessed with our second daughter at the right time for our family.

Shelby is a sweet girl too. She is really strong and can hold her head up well. She is gaining weight great and seems to really be looking at her surroundings more. She loves to nap and sleep right next to me. I love to hear her sweet sounds and especially to hold her close. Overall, we have a great month. This is what we have been doing to fill our days:

~fighting a nasty diaper rash that won't seem to go away

~planning Claire's 3rd Birthday Party

~getting ready for Easter

~putting together Claire's swing set for her birthday (only Bucky, obviously)

~cleaning up the yard from several storms

~writing thank you notes and sending out birth announcements

~finishing both girls rooms (I will post pictures soon)

~trying to get on a schedule which Shelby has easily adapted to

~running errands

~enjoying delicious meals from our wonderful friends

~not trying to think about loosing the baby weight :)

~several doctors appointments for all members of the family. Don't worry, we are all healthy

~getting a lot of help from both grandmothers

~signing up for swim lessons this summer and ballet lessons this fall

~getting my closet and Shelby's closet cleaned out and organized

That's all I can think of now. I have to keep myself busy or I may go crazy. I am really enjoying my time off. I love being home with both girls and knowing I don't have anywhere to really be until June 18th when I return to work. I have a few more projects to finish, but mostly trying to enjoy my girls and count my blessings!

Shelby's Birth Story

This may be a very long post that takes me a while to write, but here goes. I want to write it all down before I forget anything. On Saturday, March 19th, we all stayed around the house and did yard work. I did more than I should have. I planted flowers, hosed off the porch, etc. I felt good and wanted to get some last minute things done before Shelby came. I even walked up and down the driveway several times. Sunday morning, I woke up a little sore from all of my chores. But, we went to 9:30 church and came home. I was sore and crampy, but wasn't sure if that meant anything. I tried to rest while Claire did. I just kind of felt like something was up. We ate dinner and that was the first contraction I remember. It didn't feel like what I remembered, so I didn't give it too much thought. We got Claire ready for bed and watched TV. By 10:00pm, I told Bucky I thought they were contractions. We laid in bed and talked and were able to sleep from 11pm-3am. By 3am, they were coming pretty randomly. I decided to get up and shower before I was in too much pain. Bucky and I got our bags ready. Then we started walking up and down the driveway from 4am-7:30am. Bucky was so sweet. He was right there with me the whole time. He held my hand, we talked, and he timed the contractions. It was a time I will never forget. I will think about it every single time I walk up that driveway. We were so excited and anxious to meet our baby. We called Mindy at about 5:30am so she could get ready and come over to take Claire to school. I called my partner at work, Chris, so let him know I wouldn't be coming in that morning. We called our parents and told them we weren't sure of anything yet, but to get up and get ready. Last, we called labor and delivery at the hospital around 6:30am. We told them my contractions were strong and about every 10 minutes. They totally blew me off and said this could go on for 2 more weeks. They said to take a shower/bath, eat something, and take Tylenol. I told them I had already done all these things and that I would just go to the office at 8am to get checked. We got Claire up. She was a little confused but got dressed and went to school without any fuss or tears. Thank goodness. It would have been hard to leave her upset. Bucky and I got the car loaded and were at Dr. Litsey's office at 8am. Once again, the receptionist blew us off. She said all the doctors were in a meeting and that we may have to wait a while. Meanwhile, my contractions were coming every 7 minutes. I just kept walking and breathing through them. Bucky got very impatient. Finally, my 2 regular nurses, Velma and Nancy, called me back. They did the normal routine. They offered me water and a room to lay down in. I just kept walking. We saw Dr. Litsey around 8:45am. I was 5cm dilated. I suggested we go home and wait for the contractions to get closer together. Dr. Litsey and Bucky both said 'no', you are going to the hospital. So, we went across the street and got checked in. They didn't even make me go to an observation room, straight to the delivery room. By the time I got settled and Bucky was able to come back with me, it was 9:20am. Dr. Alverson was on call. I had never seen him, but my good friend, Elyse, loves him. He was very kind and seemed to really care. I expressed to him and the nurses that we wanted a natural childbirth. I could tell that they were kind of doubting me, but I knew I could do it. My parents got to the hospital around 10am. We were able to talk a little bit, in between contractions. The worst part of labor to me was laying in the bed. I couldn't stand it. I stood some and sat in a rocking chair. Movement seemed to really help me. Contractions started coming faster. My parents went to the waiting room, after a quick prayer. I was 8cm. Contractions were intense, but I was able to get a break in between them. Bucky was right there by me, holding my hand and reassuring me. I asked to be checked again, but I was still 8cm. What? I told Bucky I was about to loose control. He talked me through it. Dr. A came in and broke my water. It seemed to take forever to get to 10cm. But, finally around 11:30 or 11:45am, I was ready to push. The weird thing is, I never got the urge to push. I just had to make myself do it. My back was killing me and the contractions seemed to have no break. For the 27 minutes I pushed, I don't think I ever opened my eyes. The nurses, Dr. A, and Bucky were great coaches and a great encouragement. When baby Street finally came out, I opened my eyes and saw her. It didn't register that I didn't know the sex until Bucky said, 'It's a Girl!'. He was very excited and I was relieved. Shelby Leigh was born at 12:16pm March 21, 2011. She had a lot of hair and was a healthy 7lb 3oz and 19.5 inches. Funny how I thought she was going to be a big baby! Bucky was very emotional. Dr. A joked that he didn't know who pushed harder, me or Bucky. I was still having contractions and pain, waiting on the placenta to come out. It took 26 minutes, but it finally came out. I felt like something wasn't right, but then again, I had never done it all natural. Dr. A talked about bleeding and told me to call him if it continued. I held sweet Shelby and was able to nurse her for a few minutes while Bucky told our families. He came in and I told him something didn't feel right. I was still in so much pain. I thought it was supposed to instantly go away. He called the nurse in. I was still bleeding heavily. Within 30 seconds, there were 10 people in the delivery room. Bucky was holding Shelby. The anesthesiologist came in. Dr. A talked about doing a DNC or possible hysterectomy. I was so out of it. I had one nurse starting a second IV while the other inserted a catheter. Meanwhile, I felt EVERYTHING. They took me back to the operating room and I remember saying a prayer as I went to sleep. I woke up and asked about Shelby and Bucky. They said they were both fine. Dr. A came in a few minutes later and said there was an extra 'finger' to my placenta that was stuck up in the top of my uterus. He just reached in and got it out. He said I lost a lot of blood and may have to have a transfusion. He also mentioned that if I had gotten the epidural, he could have removed it in the delivery room. Who would have thought? But, I recovered over the next few days, though I felt weak. By Wednesday morning, my red blood cell levels were still dropping. I was re-checked and Dr. Golden said I could go home without a blood transfusion. Thank the Lord! I am on high dose iron twice a day. All in all, the birth went how I wanted it too. Sweet Shelby was very cooperative during labor. She did exactly what she was supposed to do and I was able to deliver her the way I wanted. After that, everything else was in God's hands. I know He was with me and my family the whole time. Shelby has been a blessing and we are so thankful for her health. So, that is the story of Shelby's arrival!

My parents took my brother, sister, and I to the National Championship. Our sweet spouses agreed to stay home with the kids. We had a great time site seeing, shopping, eating and of course WINNING! We were very proud of the support all the Auburn fans showed and for bringing home the National Championship. 4 out of 5 of us are Auburn Alums (my mom went to Jacksonville State) so that made it extra special. I must admit, after all of my friends graduated from Auburn and left, I thought I would hate living in Auburn. On many occasions, I begged Bucky to move back to Birmingham. He politely refused and basically told me to get over it. Not long after that, I got in touch with a few of my sorority sisters and we decided to start a Bunco group. That was almost 6 years ago. Our Bunco group has grown and changed. We have met new people and added to our own families. Needless to say, without them, I would not feel that same way about Auburn.

Then, Claire and I were introduced to wonderful group of ladies through the EAMC breastfeeding support group. We would meet once a week at the hospital to weigh in and talk about what was going on with our babies. We have stayed together as a toddler group celebrating birthdays and new babies. It is an AMAZING group of mothers who are truly inspiring with their selflessness and nurturing personalities.

I love these two groups of women. Their friendships mean so much to me. I always look forward to my time with them. You each make me a better person, wife, and mother.

Clarie has had a ball getting ready for Christmas. She wants to be right in the middle of the action when it comes to preparations. Claire loved Santa and was not afraid at all. She very specifically wants a 'Princess Barbie Jeep.' We'll have to see! Until then, we are having fun celebrating the season together.

Claire's school had a pep rally on Thursday. Aubie and some cheerleaders came to visit. I was off so I got to go with her. Claire LOVED Aubie and really hammed it up. Some of her friends were afraid of Aubie. Claire was not at all. She wanted to sit in his lap the entire time. She had to wait her turn for other classes to get their pictures made. I am pretty sure I got our Christmas card picture that day but I will wait and see. War Eagle!

We are so excited to be expecting our second baby. Our due date is April 4, 2011. The ultrasound today looked great! Everything is growing and developing like it should be. We feel incredibly blessed. We (mainly me) have chosen not to find out the gender until he/she arrives. I am fully confident that God will give us whatever we need to complete our family! God is so good!

For those of you who know us, we don't go to football games. We haven't been in years. To save our marriage, we stopped tailgating and attending games a long time ago. Well, we had gotten some free tickets to go with my sister and her family. They couldn't come last minute because Will was sick. So, without any persuasion Bucky still agreed to go to the game. It was a nice fall morning, but warmed up quickly. Claire had fun playing with Daniel before the game. She liked the pregame show and seeing Aubie. I enjoyed being back in the stadium. We made it through a whole quarter successfully. In fact, the only complaining came from Bucky! Hopefully Claire will get to go to more games in the future. War Eagle!

We saw our friends, and Claire saw some of her from class/playgroup. It is such a great atmosphere for Auburn families. We look forward to going for years to come.

This past weekend we rented a condo at Lake Martin with some of our friends. My dream is to one day own a lake condo/cabin. It is only about 40 minutes from our house to the lake. I know we would really enjoy it. We went up Friday after work. Our friends, Britton and Diana, and Mindy met us up there. We had a wonderful dinner and hung out. Saturday we went for a boat ride, swam in the pool, and went out to eat. I even took a nap with Claire. Sunday, our friends the Schoonover's, and Grandma, Granddaddy, and Mindy came. We all went for a boat ride and swam. Then we ate some hamburgers and took a quick nap. We had a really fun time, despite a whiny 2 year old that we couldn't make happy with anything. Poor thing. We found out she has a sinus infection, so I am sure that was the culprit. We look forward to many summers at the lake with our new boat.

10 Year Reunion

I am a little late posting this. Two weeks ago we went to Birmingham for my 10 year high school reunion. Bucky and I had a lot of fun seeing people from high school and catching up. A lot of things have changed for us in the past 10 years! But all for the better. Who knows what the next 10 years will bring!

We had a wonderful weekend celebrating Bucky's birthday and the 4th of July. Friday night, we had two of Bucky's friends from high school over. Taylor May and Matt Tyson were coming down so they came to eat with us and Mindy. We haven't seen them in forever. It was really nice to catch up with them.

Saturday morning we went to Blairesville, GA to visit our friends, the Stanfields. It has kind of become a tradition. We had the best time with our dear friends. Jenny is 37 weeks pregnant but still showed so much hospitality and kept up with three kids under 4! I have no idea how she did it. We played, fished, swam, ate, and went to the creek. We couldn't have asked for better friends or a better weekend. Can't wait for their third baby to come and hear what he/she is.

We had a great weekend in Birmingham celebrating Father's Day. We also celebrated Mr. Street's 60th birthday today. We went to Tannehill to trade days, took a long nap, and to La Fiesta last night for the birthday party. This morning we went to Riverchase UMC and Riverchase Country Club for brunch. We had a fun weekend celebrating so special daddies. Thank you, Bucky, for being a GREAT father to our daughter. We love you!!

Today, Claire and I went to Birmingham to help 'host' (and I use that term loosely) a baby shower for my dear friend, Leah. Leah and I have known each other since high school. Last week, Claire and I went down to my sister's with my mom and dad. We went for Kate's first dance recital. She did AWESOME! It is hard to believe she is only 3. We had a fun trip swimming, shopping, and visiting. These kids are growing up in front of our eyes!

We had a great time with our dear friends, Brian and Jenny Stanfield. They have two beautiful, fun children Selah (4) and Levi (2) and one due in July. We always enjoy our time together and letting our children play together.

Claire and Natalie are best friends (well, their moms are anyways). So, we play at least once a week with them. The girls are 6 weeks apart and get along pretty well. Claire loves to talk about Carla and Natalie. She also loves to boss Natalie around and take things from her. Natalie pretty much ignores her and does her own thing. I think that is why they are best friends. To many fun playtimes together on Thursdays! We love you Natalie!

Claire and I took a Mommy-and-Me music class on Thursdays this spring. Claire LOVED it and finally starting singing the songs during the last class :) We loved seeing our friends every week and getting to learn new songs. Now, we can't wait to start on new art class on Thursdays.

Friday, Claire and I went on a picnic with some of our dear friends. We enjoyed sitting, eating, and playing. Hopefully it is not getting to hot to do it again soon! Claire keeps talking about it.

The Worst is Over...

On Monday, Claire started running fever again. I was at the beach, so Bucky and his mom had to handle everything. Wednesday, she went to our pediatrician (per ENT request) where she tested positive for strep AGAIN and had an ear infection. He gave her a shot and said she could still go into surgery. Thursday, Bucky and I headed up to the hospital at 7am with Claire. We had a short wait and Claire was in a pleasant mood. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. We took her back. The worst part was her leaving to go into surgery. They told us we should be back with her in about an hour. Well, about 15-20 minutes later they came and got us. The surgery was over and we met with Dr. Stiles. He said her tonsils were a 4 out of 4 in size and her adenoids almost took the entire space. That alone told us we had done the right thing. Her ears were okay, just a little fluid behind them. Overall, he thought everything went well and that we may be able to come home later in the day. After about 20 more minutes they came and got us because she was waking up. All in all we were only away from her for about 40 minutes.

The worst part of the whole day was for the next hour. Coming out of anesthesia was the WORST. It really upset Bucky to see her like that. Her little face was swollen and she had a lot of drainage coming out of her mouth. All she could do in cry and try to pull out her IV. She was totally out of it. Once they got us to her room, it seemed like about 30 mins before she came to. The rest of the day she cried and slept, but refused to drink or eat. During her nap, Bucky and I took turns holding her. When she started to wake up, I noticed blood. I almost passed out. I had no idea where it was coming from. Luckily, she had pulled out her IV during her nap accidentally. The nurse said it was fine, she just had to start drinking.

Around 5:00 she was inconsolable. I thought for sure we would have to spend the night. I got her calm while everyone ate dinner. My mom brought a sandwich and I asked where the chips were. Claire hopped down and said "I want chips." Instead she ate some of my chicken salad sandwich, 2 nutragrain bars and some juice. She immediately felt better. So, we were able to come home and sleep in our own beds. Claire slept all night and has had a touch-and-go morning. I know she is in pain. We are trying to get the pain management worked out because she can't have Motrin. Our only options are Tylenol or Lortab.

Overall, everything went better than Bucky and I expected. Claire is really tough. She is a trooper and I can't imagine how much pain she is in and has been in. We are definitely on the rode to recovery and hope to see a HUGE difference in Claire's health. Thanks to everyone for prayer, thoughts, concerns, and phone calls. We really appreciate it!

We have so much to be thankful for. We could never count or name our blessings. I know we don't face anything compared to families in other parts of the world. I am trying to keep everything in perspective. Claire has been fighting ear infections and strep throat for the past 2-3 months. As soon as she finishes as round of antibiotic, it seems like everything starts all over again. After scarlet fever and RSV on top of strep and an ear infection, Bucky and I decided to take her to an ENT. We went Friday and he recommended tubes and to remove her tonsils and adenoids. We are trying to schedule the surgery for this Thursday. Because she is so little, we have to spend the night in the hospital because there is a risk of bleeding after removing tonsils. I am nervous but ready for her to have some relief. I know she won't understand or remember this, but I sure do wish it was me instead of her. I will keep everyone posted. Prayers are appreciated...

This past weekend, we went to visit our friends in Beaufort, SC. We left Thursday when Bucky got home and went around 250miles. We spent the night and got up the next morning and drove the rest of the way. We had a great time with the Harkins. Claire loves playing with Smith and Larson. We went to Larson's baseball game on Friday night. Saturday, we all got up and drove to Charleston, SC which was about an hour away. We went to a children's museum which was great. Then we ate lunch and walked around Market Street. I could have spent days in Charleston. It was so lovely. On our way home, we stopped at a famous tree called Angel Oak. That is where all the pictures were taken. We ate a lot of shrimp and good food, thanks to Mary. We enjoyed our trip and spending time with our good friends.

This weekend, both sides of our family came to Auburn to celebrate Claire's birthday. Everyone was here on Saturday. We had a fun day around the house and at A-day (for some of them). I didn't get many pictures of the adults probably because I was focused on the kids. Claire loves her cousins and she loves birthday parties so she had a great day on Saturday.

Sunday, Claire starting getting snotty again. We just finished a round of antibiotics for strep and an ear infection. I thought she might not be feeling well. And I was right. I got a call at work on Tuesday from Claire's daycare. She was running a slight fever. So I left and took her to the pediatrician. Bucky met me there. It turns out the strep and ear infection were not cleared by the first round of antibiotics. She also tested positive for RSV. Poor Claire can't catch a break. She is doing better today. She started a stronger antibiotic. We are going to the ENT next week to determine if she needs tubes and her adenoids removed. At this point, I am ready to do anything for her to get and stay well.

We are going to South Carolina tonight to see our friend's the Harkins. Claire is really excited. I think we all need a little vacation. Distraction is always good.

The Friday before Easter, we celebrated Claire, Natalie, and Ruca's 2nd birthdays with our playgroup. It was a beautiful day spent at a local park with lots of family and friends. My mom even came down and brought Caroline. We are so blessed to have such a great playgroup with fun moms and friends. They made Claire's birthday celebration so special. This weekend, we are having our family celebration. So, I will have another birthday post.

On a side note, Claire has been sleeping in her twin bed. It has been in her room forever. Bucky and I used to sleep there some when Claire was little. Recently, she has been giving us a hard time going to bed. I think mostly because she was sick. Anyways, Bucky started laying with her in the twin bed until she fell asleep. We decided to get some bed rails and try it out. She slept all night last night without a peep. I guess lots of milestones come with the 2nd birthday too.....
